Default Scrapes amd rubs

So i hear that a buck that makes a scrape visits it once a day. Is that true? What time of the day have you had luck with bucks visiting their scrape? and also do bucks revisit rubs on trees?

Rubs are usually freshened at night.

Well I hunt scrapes whenever I find them. They definitely like to freshen them up after a rain. My favorite time to sit a scrape is as soon as the rain ends. Rubs depend on time of year.

mature bucks will move about during the late evening and night during the hunting seasons (basically, anytime humans start moving into the woods in the fall) . In areas that normally have high traffic of humans all year round bucks tend to move about in early morning, around lunch time and then in the evening.

On my cams in the past I have noticed bucks like to frequent their rubs and scrapes in the late evening and again right before light in the morning. you really need to use scrapes and rubs more for identifying bucks in your area. Then find where they bed down and move to feed and water. You need to setup your stands and blinds in these transition zones and ambush them on their way to and from the food and bedding.

also, while most hunters are on their way to get lunch in the hours of 11 to 2 that is when I have seen deer moving the most and have shot my big bucks all within this time frame with the exception of my biggest buck (159 B&C dry score) i took in the morning when he came to the feed trough with the cows to get some of the food (this was back home in South Dakota on the family farm).

Bucks revisit rubs just sometimes just like lick branches. I also seen one buck make a new rub and another buck come rub the same tree the same day. When in "peak" rut bucks run just about all hours if there is a doe in heat in the area. I agree with UF in the fact that high traffic areas are your best bet. The less pressure the more likely bucks are going to move during daylight. Also keep in mind that some scrapes NEVER get revisited... I have seen scrapes the size of a 57' Chevy that are made one night and never visited again the rest of the year. These are some of my experiences for what it is worth.

Most of my trail cam evidence has shown me that bucks use scrapes predominantly at night.
