Default Identify the predator

I am in central PA and here is a pic of the critter we got on a game camera recently. This is why we keep loosing our deer population. We have several varying opinions on what it is as follows: bobcat, large bobcat, mountain lion, half bobcat half mountain lion, lynx.

Anybody care to post an opinion?

Definitely looks like a fairly nice sized Bobcat. We've got them here and never have an issue with over predation of deer from them. I would look more towards the two legged variety of predator for your lower numbers.

It's me in a cat suit. No it's a bobcat. They do occasionally attack deer but I don't think enough to damage the population.

One more for Bobcat Hard to tell but looks like a pretty good sized one, maybe even up to mid 20 lb range.

Look chinese dinner...

I'm not sure how much damage a bobcat would do... I know a few hours away from here there were very very few if none, Mountain Lions. I see thier tracks down on the sandy parts of the Creek nearby the camp, so I know there are a few around, but the club hasnt seen a real drop in deer population. Atleast nothing to kill the lion over thats for sure. So I would be more worried about gobble population before the deer.

As already positively IDed, bobcat. And unless PA deer are the size of rabbits, those puddy-tats aren't going to put any kind of a dent in your local herds.

It is a bobcat...but to be honest, there is very little evidence that they are responsible for declines in deer numbers...Their numbers (bobcats) are directly related to the rabbit populations.

i say you got a bunch of trees there.

Oh, and there is a big ol' bobcat in the foreground.

Might want to take care of him, they can take down a medium deer with ease. Down here I have seen them chasing deer and one even had the balls to try and stalk me while I was scouting (his pelt is now in my den).

Looks awful big to be a true Bobcat. A Bobcat is the smallest species of the genus Lynx. Hard to tell without a better picture. IMO, I vote for the slightly larger species Canadian Lynx.
