Practice arrows
Hey yall,
Im really hard on arrows to say the least, I bought half a dozen cabelas carbon hunters and in a little over a month ive broken three and lost one(D-loop snapped) . Im starting to think it was a bad batch of arrows (minus the d-loop failure). Anyone got recomendations for good low priced practice arrows?

Re: Practice arrows
It depens on where you're breaking them. if you're shooting into a dirt bank and hitting rocks then no thats normal. if you're shooting them into a target and breaking in the target then yes it is a problem and I wouldn't shoot them because an arrow blowing up in your face sux!

My target is set up against a 4' diameter Oak. If I miss the target and hit the oak I will usually have to get a pair of pliers out to pull the fieldpoint out but the arrow holds up fine. If I miss the target and the 4' Oak I have a brick wall for a backstop... The arrows will not survive that. It gives me a very big incentive not to miss my target.
I like to shoot Gold Tips for practice and for hunting.

Re: Practice arrows
They where the cheapest thing I could find. Didnt want to spend much $ after breaking a half dozen gold tips in my targets (long story short, extreme cold is bad for arrows). Im guess im just one of those guys who could break a ball bearing

Re: Practice arrows
i use the gold tip ultralights that are actually hard to find but they make a hunter arrow that is around 80 to 100 per dozen and they are pretty much indestructible. but if you only ever hit the target it should never be a problem.

Re: Practice arrows
forgetting your arrows outside in january. Went out to shoot the next mornin and they snapped when I tried to pull them out of the target, guess they where brittle and couldnt handle the tension from pullin them out of a frozen target (an old solid foam one). Im just glad they didnt blow up in my face.

Re: Practice arrows
thats not the arrows fault...they were frozen in, and you didn't pull in a straight line...
so you haven't been shooting since sometime in January then???

Re: Practice arrows
When I 1st started, I would bust up 5 to 7 arrows a week.
Hit everything but what I was aiming at. I think the cost of the arrows helped me improve my aim.

Re: Practice arrows
I use Cabelas arrows for stump shooting and i keep one in my quiver (while hunting)with a blunt on it for shooting grouse. It doesn`t hurt so much when you lose or break one, which i do alot of both.

IMHO that is not the fault of the arrow ----- it's abuse. ANY arrow will break if abused.

LMAO! NO ONE makes arrows capable of surviving m.c.r. ! Get you some steel rods, turn a point and saw a nock, slap some vanes on there. Crank your draw weight up cuz they'll be kinda stiff and not much speed to speak of, but GREAT penetration. Perfect for those straight down stand shots.
