Compound bow color?
I was just curious to know everyones opinion on how much the camouflage (or lack there of) on a bow matters? Im looking at picking up a Hoyt Maxxis 31 in the next week or two. I shot a "1/2&1/2" as Hoyt calls it, which is a black riser and camo limbs. They also have all black, or a camo riser w/ black limbs, etc.
I love the look of the 1/2 & 1/2 but Im wondering how much of an effect (if any) it will have on blending in. I hunt from the ground sometimes from a makeshift ground blind, or still hunt... If that makes any difference.
Thoughts?

camo. Correct me if im mistaken but it sounds like you will be hunting from a stand/ stalk hunting more often than not. I think that would justify the camo. Also what do you mean by makeshift groundblind? If it isnt dark inside like the pop up blinds, camo will probably work better there too.

Re: Compound bow color?
The black and camo looks good but the design behind it is so when you are in a ground blind the deer sees your riser and its blak along with the rest blind. But if you are in a tree the deer sees the bottom of your limb and its camo and matces the tree

u can hunt with any one of those. I killed a doe last year with a chrome b stinger on my bow. The bow is not as much of a worry than my clothes

Re: Compound bow color?
Remember what natural preditors does a deer have thats the size of a bow??? Nothing really. If the deer is looking at ya quite moving and making noise! If he aint looking shoot em!

No stands, just ground blinds and stalking. By "makeshift" I mean whatever I can find such as blown down trees with brush. I dont bring in much more than a camo netting to throw over top of it, if I even use it.
I didnt think that a deer would necessarily notice that my riser was black or camo but rather how much it contrast surroundings particularly if the deer notices a little movement.

Re: Compound bow color?
any of those combos is fine. a bow looks like a branch and there are plenty of black branches in the woods. however, if you are worried about it, get the camo and call it a day.

Re: Compound bow color?
I was reading an article in the newest field and stream and they suggested wearing different types of came to confuse the deer. Not sure the validity of that theory but ya never know....

Congrats-----color----------what ever strikes your fancy---game animal doesn't give a rip. IMHO camo color/patterns are made for one reason----to catch the hunter not the game. Game animals have been taken for years without the use of camo. Scent and movement are way, way more important than camo. Unless they can smell you or see you move your just another blob in the world.

I always mix and match. Only thing that I have that really matches is my bibs and coat. Early season I wear mismatched camo all the time. All you need is something that breaks up your outline...
Of course, I have been know to wear lime green, plaid slacks with a chartreuse, striped blazer as well...

Re: Compound bow color?
Camo is all just a joke in my honest opinion. Sure you want to break up your silhouette, but all this real tree, apg, mossy oak stuff is really not going to make you that better. The biggest thing that deer will look for is movement. Even in full camo, moving at the wrong time is going to send a deer packing. I know many people who hunt stalking, still hunting, from a blind and in a tree stand using white hats, green shirts, and blue jeans and bag as many deer as people decked to the teeth in camo.
Tell me this, how much camo'ed gear did Fred Bear use while hunting?
http://www.bowhunter-ed.com/images/g..._fred_bear.jpg
Let not also mention the fact that he used a recurve meaning he had to get closer to his prey then we do today. I can tell you that Fred Bear didn't have a full set of scent lock realtree break up with a fully decked out camo bow.
Black is just fine. I have a camo bow only because it was cheaper ($200 less cheaper) for me to buy a camo bow then it was to go with full black, other wise I would have gotten my alpha max fully blacked out. The deer won't care what color your bow is, just shoot what you want.

Re: Compound bow color?
I agree with what was already said, buy whatever camo you like because the deer couldn't care one bit about your bow color......they don't care about your body camo color either....be quiet, don't move quickly, be clean and play the wind and you could kill a deer in jeans and a t-shirt.
